Sequel to the expansion of the Federal Government’s  decision on the Visa on Arrival (VOA) policy, no fewer than 500 foreigners are issued visas... MMIA records  minimum of 500 visas weekly

Sequel to the expansion of the Federal Government’s  decision on the Visa on Arrival (VOA) policy, no fewer than 500 foreigners are issued visas on a weekly basis at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA ) . The policy which 12,000 foreigners/tourists have benefited from in 6 months, is to facilitate business transactions in Nigeria.

Sources hint that sometimes the figure increases to 1000 on several occasions if approved by the Comptroller General Immigrations in Abuja.

The Visa on Arrival scheme was introduced in 2012 with Nigeria and nationals of Kenya until in 2017.

In order to Ease Business transactions  the federal government decided to extend the scheme to cover all countries travelling into Nigeria on two categories, business and tourist.

Investigations reveal that due process are followed before visa on arrival is issued. Visa on arrival is applied outside the country, and it goes through a process before approval by the comptroller general in Abuja.

Background checks on the applicants is usually carried out to ensure they don’t have any criminal or terrorist records or watch list. Airline that carry passengers without the right document, will be fined US$2000 dollars per passenger .

Requirements for the VOA, according to sources includes, a letter from the reputable organization  seeking approval and taking responsibility, a business permit letter as well as certificate of incorporation and most importantly, an airline ticket.”

Following the recent activities at the international airport, our correspondent Akinkunle Oluwaseun reports that there’s been a cordial relationship between the security agents. According to our reporter, some airport staff interviewed said there’s a synergy no w between Nigerian Immigration service,ABSEC,NDLEA and other agents.
Hardly is there any friction like it used to be.

A source hinted that there are officers in mufti who are on surveillance , to monitor the activities of the officers and passengers.
