He’s a living legend in the world of competitive track and field, the current fastest man in the world and the holder of several world records and Olympic gold medals because of it. Now, Jamaican sensation Usain Bolt is seeing his reputation tarnished, but not because of something he did. No, a teammates actions will now cost the superstar athlete one of his main claims to fame.

When he finished his final race last year at the Rio Olympiad, Bolt became the first triple/triple runner ever. This means that in the last three competitions – Beijing in 2008, London in 2012, and 2016 – he won the gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m races. While such success naturally bred rumors of PED taking, Bolt has never failed a test.

Usain Bolt Stripped off 2008 medal

Sadly, his fellow runner Nesta Carter did. Back in 2008, he was tagged for having taken a banned substance, and now, some eight years later, the appeal process has been exhausted. The Jamaican teams victory in the 4x100m relay has been vacated, with second place finisher Trinidad and Tobago now awarded top honors.

It’s sad, especially since Bolt appears to have little or no role in the result. He did his job during the race, and now the shortcuts of a teammate are costing him glory. We doubt this will lesson the man’s reputation – he is still one of the greatest sprinters ever. Only now, he has one less medal to show for it.
